In The Muppets franchise, Kermit the Frog was the leader of a variety show starring the Muppets. He later became the producer of Up Late with Miss Piggy. Kermit was born in a swamp in Louisiana and as a tadpole he had thousands of siblings. He also had a nephew named Robin. He was the best friend of Fozzie Bear and the boyfriend of Miss Piggy. The two recently split, and Kermit became involved with another pig, Denise. He played the banjo and was known for the song, The Rainbow Connection.
Kermit is a variant of the Irish name Dermot. It means "without envy." In 2014, 12 boys were named Kermit in the U.S.
