In ABC's Once Upon a Time, August Booth was the real world version of Pinocchio. Gepetto was tasked with building a magical wardrobe to help Emma, the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, evade the Evil Queen's curse. He used the wardrobe to send Pinocchio ahead, and made him promise to look after Emma. After being placed in foster care, August ran away and left Emma behind. When Emma returned to Storybrooke, August began to turn into wood because he had not been a good boy. He returned to Storybrooke and attempted to convince Emma that she was the savior, but he failed and he turned completely into wood. He was later killed by Tamara but his selfless sacrifice allowed him to return to his former self as the young boy Pinocchio. He forgot everything that transpired, so later when Rumpelstiltskin needed information about the Author, he used magic to turn him back into the adult August.
In Disney Channel's Girl Meets World, August 'Auggie' Matthews is the son of Cory and Topanga Matthews. His older sister is Riley.
The name August is of Latin origin and it means "great or magnificent." August entered the top 1,000 names for boys in the U.S. for the first time in 2010. In 2014, it ranked as the 242nd most popular name. It was also given to 230 girls.
