Tala

Grandmother Tala from Moana
In Disney's Moana, Tala was the mother of Chief Tui, and was Moana's grandmother. When the ocean gave the heart of Te Fiti to Moana as a young child, Tala kept it safe until she was older. She taught Moana about her people's past and encouraged her to follow her to find Maui and return the heart of Te Fiti. When she died, her spirit took the form of a stingray.

In Tagalog Mythology, Tala was the goddess of the morning and evening star. In 2015, 115 girls were named Tala in the United States.
