In Disney Channel's Sofia the First, Sofia was a commoner living in a village in the kingdom of Enchancia with her mother Miranda who owned a shoe shop. After her mother met and fell in love with King Roland II the two were married and Sofia became a princess. She had a step sister, Princess Amber and a step brother, Prince James. On her first day as a Princess, King Roland gave Sofia a necklace as a present. The amulet turned out to be the Amulet of Avalor, which would bestow a blessing or a curse. When she saved a baby bird it gave her the ability to speak with animals as long as she wore the amulet. The amulet also summons another Princess to help Sofia when she is in trouble. Sofia's best friend was a rabbit named Clover. She also had a flying horse named Minimus, whom she rode as part of the Royal Prep Flying Derby team. Sofia attended Royal Prep, a school dedicated to teaching royal children.
