Rider / Ryder

In Disney's Tangled, Flynn Rider was an orphan who became a thief. He was born Eugene Fitzherbert, but changed his name in honor of a swashbuckling rogue named Flynnigan Rider that was character in a book he loved as a child. He met Rapunzel, who blackmailed him into being her guide. The two fell in love, and eventually saved each other from Mother Gothel. Rapunzel was reunited with her parents and Flynn received a full pardon. The two were later married.

In Star Wars Rebels, Ryder Azadi was the Governor of Lothal before the Galactic Empire. He was charged with treason and imprisoned, along with Ezra Bridger's parents. He later escaped, but the Bridgers died in the attempt.

Rider is derived from Ryder, an English name. It was originally an occupational surname for a mounted forest officer. In 2014, 71 boys were named Rider in the U.S. The alternate spelling of Ryder was much more popular, and ranked as the 95th most popular name for boys. Ryder was also given to 129 girls.
